2 - Preparing Your Child for School-Entry

Strategies to help your child build self-advocacy skills

Strong self-advocacy skills will help your child succeed in and out of the classroom, so practice these skills with your child before school-entry.

To begin, encourage your child to talk about what he or she likes and dislikes, and about his or her strengths and challenges. This will help your child become comfortable with self-description, which is the foundation of self-advocacy.
