4 - Final Preparation for School-Entry

List of suggested backup cochlear implant equipment for the classroom

Should the cochlear implant stop working at school, the teacher should have the knowledge and equipment to troubleshoot the implant. Below is a list of suggested backup cochlear implant equipment you should provide your child's teacher.
  • Several packages of spare batteries
  • A battery tester and a battery charger
  • Extra transmitter/headpiece
  • Backup microphone
  • Replacement parts - batteries, cables, perhaps transmitter/headpiece
  • Several packages of spare batteries or a battery charger
  • Alcohol swabs to clean equipment if it falls off
  • Educator's guide or other trouble-shooting materials from your child's implant manufacturer. A customer service representative will help you find this information
  • Transmitter wand to ensure transmitter/headpiece is working
  • Listening microphone to ensure the microphone is working
  • Wig tape or a headband to hold processor in place, if necessary
