Mini-Course: Preparing for School-Entry

1 - Gathering Information for School-Entry

Questions to consider (continued)

Some additional questions include:
  • What are your child's greatest strengths?
    • In what ways can you describe or demonstrate these strengths to your child's teachers and others at the school?
    • What methods can you suggest that will help the school maximize these strengths?
  • What are your child's biggest learning challenges?
    • What are some ways you and the teacher can address these challenges?
    • In what ways can you describe or demonstrate these challenges to your child's teacher?
    • What methods can you suggest to the school that may mitigate these concerns?
Thinking through these larger issues will help you complete the more pointed My Child's Strengths and Challenges information sheet, which provides an at-a-glance description of your child's language and literacy strengths and challenges. The completed information sheet is a useful document to distribute to personnel at your child's school.
