Mini-Course: Challenging Situations

5 - Contingency Plan

Challenge: The teacher fails to implement accommodations in the classroom

The teacher will be more likely to implement accommodations in the classroom if he or she understands their value to the child.

Strategy: Find a time to meet with the teacher in person or over the phone and explain needed accommodations and how they can be integrated into the classroom. Emphasize ways to easily implement the accommodations, and discuss how each one may help your child.

Refer to the mini-course entitled Final preparation for school-entry for more information.

If applicable and necessary, remind the teacher that the accommodations are required by your child's IEP or Section 504 plan.
