Challenge: Your child's grades drop

Strategy: Arrange a meeting with the teacher to discuss factors that contribute to your child's school performance.

Ask for the teacher's tips on homework and studying for tests, and discuss how you can help your child at home. Confirm with the teacher that your child comprehends information and instructions for activities and tests.

Ask the teacher to ensure that he or she is facing the class while speaking to increase your child's ability to understand what he or she is saying.

Also, investigate your child's interactions with peers in the classroom, lunch, and at recess. Social isolation can affect self-esteem and academic performance.
