Mini-Course: Preparing for School-Entry

3 - Working as Part of a Team

Assessing team dynamics

Once your team has met to discuss the best ways to support the student with a cochlear implant, it will be helpful to assess your interactions with the team members.

Questions to consider:
  • Does everyone share an understanding of the goals for the child?
  • Are you communicating with team members frequently and listening to their suggestions?
  • Does the team modify its approaches with the child when needed?
If the answers to any of these questions is "no," then consider starting a frank discussion with the team about what you all could do better to help the child. Frame the conversation in terms of the benefit to the child.
