Mini-Course: Preparing for School-Entry

3 - Working as Part of a Team

Benefits of working with a team

The benefits of working with, and learning from, an informal or formal team are two-fold.
  • First, the expertise of other people will augment your knowledge and help you maximize the success of the child.
  • Second, team members can provide you with support and encouragement so you don't have to go it alone.
Moreover, research suggests that children with cochlear implants who are most successful in mainstream classrooms receive support from a team of professionals who do the following things:
  • Work toward the same goals for that child, without competing interests
  • Communicate regularly and clearly with one another
  • Listen to suggestions from others and modify their approaches to teaching accordingly
