Mini-Course: Preparing for School-Entry

3 - Working as Part of a Team

Working with the parents

It is vital that you develop a strong working relationship with the parents of the child with a cochlear implant in your classroom. They are an important source of information, and you can work together to reinforce the same goals and lessons at home and school.

Ideally, start the year with a planning meeting to introduce yourself to the parents and child, but be sure to keep talking during the school year.

Below, a teacher of a student with a cochlea implant discusses what she needs to learn from the parents prior to the start of the school year.
