Mini-Course: Challenging Situations

7 - Social and Physical Challenges

Social challenges: Rules or directions

Children with cochlear implants may be perceived as "acting out" when they simply did not hear a critical set of instructions or rules.

Repeated incidents may lead teachers or classmates to assume the child is a troublemaker or that they are uncooperative.

Remember to determine the cause of any inattentiveness displayed by a child with cochlear implant before jumping to conclusions, and try to teach your other students to do the same.
