Mini-Course: Challenging Situations

7 - Social and Physical Challenges

Physical challenges: Vestibular and balance problems (continued)

Vestibular challenges may also manifest as:
  • Clumsiness
  • Awkwardness
  • Difficulty sitting or standing still, or
  • Poor handwriting
The parent(s) of the child with a cochlear implant should let you know if their child experiences any of these challenges.

If you notice these difficulties in a child with a cochlear implant, bring them to the parents' attention. Occupational therapy can help develop fine and gross motor skills or improve vestibular and balance problems in children with cochlear implants.
