Mini-Course: Challenging Situations

6 - Hearing and Language Challenges

Strategy: Learn about factors contributing to language development

Numerous factors contribute to the rate of a child's language acquisition after cochlear implantation, such as:
  • Exposure to language
  • Supportive therapies in place, and
  • Developmental level
The parents of the child with a cochlear implant in your classroom should provide you with information on that child's age at implantation and skill levels in a variety of listening and language areas so you can tailor your instruction accordingly.
