Mini-Course: After School-Entry

8 - Social Integration of a Child with a Cochlear Implant

Teach the Five Senses

You may also present the topic of cochlear implants to the class by discussing the five senses. When you discuss the five senses and how they provide us with information about the world, you can specifically say that there are some children who are deaf and can't use their sense of hearing. However, cochlear implants help these children hear things more clearly.

The Classroom Activity Guide and accompanying DVD provide an introduction to the senses through classroom activities, offer a child-appropriate explanation of cochlear implants, and remind the students to be good friends to all members of the class. The Classroom Activity Guide and DVD are available for purchase through this website. Click here to find out more about purchasing components of the Cochlear Implant School Toolkit.
