Mini-course 8: Social integration of a child with a cochlear implant
This mini-course describes strategies to help you encourage your student with a cochlear implant, and build understanding and acceptance among your other students. It includes the following information sheets:
- Information Sheet: Explaining a cochlear implant to a young child - which describes how to explain the cochlear implant to the other students in your classroom without singling out the child with the implant or making him or her feel uncomfortable
- Information Sheet: Establishing a buddy system in the classroom - which explains the benefits of pairing the student with the cochlear implant, or all of your students, with a buddy
This mini-course describes the process of revising your strategies as you learn more about cochlear implants by interacting with the student with the cochlear implant, his or her parents, and the educational team members.
