Mini-Course: Challenging Situations

5 - Contingency Plan

Introduction

While we hope that you experience the "best-case scenario" when your child with a cochlear implant enters a mainstream classroom, the reality is that some schools are better than others are at this process.

If the relationship between you and your child's school becomes strained, if you feel that your child's educational experience is suffering, or that your child's needs are not being met, you may need to develop strategies to manage the school relationship.

This mini-course outlines what you can do if you encounter a challenge with your child's teacher during or after the mainstreaming process.

After you complete this mini-course, you will be able to:
  • Navigate issues that may arise with your child's teacher
  • Work with the teacher to ensure the best outcomes for your child
