Mini-Course: Preparing for School-Entry

3 - Working with the School

Tips for presenting at this meeting (continued)

Here are some additional tips to help you prepare for your meeting with the school.
  • Take advantage of the resources around you. For example, if you have a good relationship with your child's audiologist or speech-language therapist, consider inviting that person to this meeting. Some cochlear implant centers may have materials you can share with the school personnel or have clinicians who can meet with your child's educators to answer more technical questions about cochlear implants.
  • After the presentation, take a few moments to write down what went well, and what you might do differently next time. You may have to do this presentation again, as your child gets new teachers or enters a new school, and these notes will help you prepare better for next time.
