Mini-Course: Preparing for School-Entry

3 - Working with the School

Scheduling the meeting

If your child has an established IEP, then the school will be responsible for contacting you about any meetings designed to discuss your child. However, you can request that one occur before your child enters school if the school has not already scheduled one.

If your child has a Section 504 plan, then the school is not obligated to invite you to any meetings. You will likely need to work with your key contact at the school, which may be the principal or classroom teacher, to request that they invite you to all meetings about your child.

If your child does not have either established plan, then you will need to request a meeting with the school officials to discuss your child's needs and collaborate on developing one.
