3 - Working with the School

Prepare your presentation

Plan to spend half of your meeting time presenting information on cochlear implants and your child. Be sure to leave time for questions. At a minimum, cover the following topics in this presentation:
  • Overview of your child's hearing loss and cochlear implant
  • Overview of cochlear implant technology
  • Your child's previous school experience
  • Your child's strengths and personality
  • Your child's specific hearing challenges
  • Other challenges your child experiences
  • Accommodations the school can make to support your child
  • Additional technology your child will use, such as an FM system
